Infertility: Becky’s Story

For a long time now, I have toyed with the idea of having a platform where women who are going through infertility could come and find encouragement and hope through other women’s testimonies, knowing that they are not going through this devastating experience alone, however I had often felt very reluctant about it until I recently. So I decided to use my blog as a medium and a source of blessing to hurting hearts out there. I’m going to be sharing with you testimonies of women to encourage you, one story at a time.

As a woman TTCing (Trying to conceive), I understand very well the feeling of seeing everyone carry their bundle of joy while you still wait in line to get yours. It is the worst feeling in the world!! I understand taking multiple pregnancy tests that all read “not pregnant”, that feeling of being left out, of been forgotten by God.

Becky, my dear friend battled with infertility for close to 3 years. She would call me and cry on the phone whenever someone asked her why she wasn’t yet pregnant( Naija people are very nosy ;). At a point, my dear friend dreaded leaving her house because her inability to conceive suddenly became everybody’s business; neighbors, her customers, friends and people who even barely knew her. You’ll understand the feeling if you have been through infertility in Nigeria.

On this fateful day, Becky bumped into one of her friends who worked at a clinic, while they got talking, she mentioned IVF. Devastated, she went home and cried to God. She told God that she would rather use the money meant for IVF to sow a seed into His kingdom. From that moment, Becky and her husband started sowing the said seed into the church. Behold, 3 months into sowing the seed, before they even finished sowing it, she conceived. Surprisingly, she didn’t even know she was pregnant, she thought she was maybe having a fever but no!!! God had finally brought them joy. You can imagine how overjoyed they were to know that God had finally turned their sorrow into joy and their mourning into dancing, their joy knew no bounds.

It didn’t stop there, immediately after weaning her firstborn son, Becky started exercising in order to shed all the baby fat. However, she noticed weight loss in every area of her body except the belly section. She kept tying her stomach to make her look slimmer, all to no avail. It was only when she was rushed to the hospital because of sharp stomach pains that she discovered she was pregnant with a second child. Needless to say how thrilled she was. The woman who was called barren and infertile is now a happy mother of children.

The purpose of sharing this story is to encourage all the women out there who are in a similar place. Your time for joy will surely come so do not give up! Hold onto God, put your trust in Him no matter what the situation is and He will not disappoint you… You will have your best laugh. The Bible says in Habakkuk 2:3 that “Though the vision may tarry, wait for it because it will surely come.” I always tell people that everyone’s story is different and God shows up for everyone in a unique and different way, so your own testimony may not be exactly like Becky’s but hope for it anyway.

Paraphrased Bible verses to strengthen your faith:

Psalm 127:3 “Children are an heritage from God and the fruit of the womb is His reward.”

Psalm 139:13-14 “You have made all my delicate and innermost parts, you knit me in my mother’s womb. I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

Exodus 23:25-26 “Worship the Lord thy God and His blessing will be on your food and water. He will take sicknesses and diseases away from you, none will miscarry or be barren in the land and I will fulfill the number of your days.”

Psalm 128:3 “Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.”

1 Samuel chapter 1, the whole of it.

These are just but a few of the Bible verses you can meditate on. You can find a lot more in the Bible.

This is a place where we TTCing women can pour out our hearts, so feel free to leave your comments below and if you want to bless other women through your testimony, please send an email of your testimony to:
